2.The application of the present continuous tense to express what others are doing now.

Teaching analysis:

In fact, most students have already got a basic knowledge of this tense. But they don’t have a comprehensive understanding of this grammar. So it’s important to refresh and consolidate their knowledge by learning the whole period of this unit.

Teaching method:

Task-based language learning method, cooperative learning.

Teaching aids:

The multimedia classroom.

Teaching procedures:

Step I Lead-in

Let’s see the learning objectives first together.

Enjoy a short video about an interesting song “Over the mountains”(This song may be a little funny, so students’ learning interest and curiosity will be aroused by watching this video.)

Then show the part of the song’s lyrics on PPT to present the structure of the present continuous tense that we’re going to learn in this class.

Over the mountains through the trees

Travel the world and the seven seas

I'm sailing on a ship I'm sailing on a ship

Step II Presentation

The teacher show three groups of pictures to ask a topic question “What is he/she doing?”

-What is he doing? -He is doing his homework.

-What are they doing? -They are dancing.

-What is he doing? -He is swimming.

Encourage the students to work in groups to find out the meaning and structures of the tense. Then show some typical examples of the V-ing form and give some detail explanations.

Work on activity 1a. The teacher first present the pictures of the new phrases and get students to read these phrases. Then give them 2 minutes to recite the phrases (say them in English quickly!). At last, finish 1a, let the students answer one by one by using the sentence pattern- “She is watching TV in picture i. ”

Work on lb. Listen. What are these people doing? Write the numbers from 1a. Then check the answers with the students.

Step III Practice
