3.Teaching important & difficult points.

(1)Teaching important point: After restudying this part, Ss could master two word study skills better: one is to guess meaning from context, the other is word formation.

(2)Teaching difficult point: Through the lesson, Ss could develop word study skills and apply them to English learning, even in the following College Entrance Examination.

6. Teaching procedures:

Step one (3 mins):

Ask Ss to review the words from Ex1, such as backgrounds, nation, citizens, tolerance, Aboriginal, homelands etc. in the meanwhile, get Ss to fill in the blanks quickly and try to translate it in English, at last, let Ss read the paragraph together.

Step two (12 mins):

1. Let Ss read the passage quickly (Ex 2) ,tend to the underlined words, try to guess the definitions of these words in your own words, and write them down in the second column.

2. Before Ss begin this part, I will take the first word “migrant” for example, it means a person from one place to another, then check the answers.

3. Ask Ss to look up the underlined words in the dictionary so that they can check their meanings, In the meanwhile, make Ss write the dictionary meanings in the third column. For example, migrant notes in the dictionary “ a person who goes from one place to live in another ”. Let them finish the remaining blanks by consulting the dictionary. Then read the explainations from dictionary together.

4.Expanding: ask Ss to learn to use word study skill: guess the meaning in the reading comprehension in recent years’ College Entrance Examinations.
