Step 1:Warming up

T: I often do chores on the weekend. What about you? What do you often do on

the weekend?

Get some students to answer.

Step 2:Lead -in

Let the students watch a TV show--Where are we going,Dad? and have a brainstorm about some important words or phrases.( provide,spend time on sth, take care of, depend on, a waste of time, in order to and so on.)

2a. Discuss the questions with your partner

1. Do you often do chores at home?

2.How do you feel about doing chores?

3.What chores don’t/do you like doing?

e.g. I like doing…, I hate doing…, but I don’t mind doing…

4.Do you think kids should help out with chores at home?

Step 4 :Reading

1.Skimming

The Sunday Mail magazine invited parents to write about whether they think young people should do chores at home. Skim the following letters. Which one agrees and which one disagrees?

2.Scanning

Read the first letter carefully and fill in the chart. Retell the first letter.

Read the second letter and find out the opinion, reasons ,example(s), and conclusion.
