With the development of society, table manners are more and more important .Sometime they can help people succeed. So you have to learn more table manners.

二、Presentation

Step 1.Read the passage and then fill in the chart. Then check the answers.

Learning the language of a country isn't enough. If you want to have a peasant visit, find out as much as possible about the manners and customs of your host country. You will probably be surprised at how different they can be from your own.

A visitor to India would do well to remember that people there consider it impolite to use the left hand for passing food at table. The left hand is supposed to be used for washing oneself.

At a meal in countries on the Arabic Peninsula, you will find that your glass is repeatedly refilled as soon as you drink up. If you think you have had enough, you should take the glass in your hand and give it a little shake from side to side or place your hand over the top.

In Thailand, people do not eat with chopsticks. They use spoons and forks. They never use knives, because most food is already cut. If you need to cut things, use the side of your spoon and then use your fork. The spoon is more important than the fork.. If you are right-handed, keep the spoon in your right hand and the fork in your left hand. The most important place at table is in the middle. An important guest will sit in the middle on one side of the table, and the host will sit in the middle on the other side. In Europe, it's quite common to cross your legs when you talk to someone even at an important meeting. Doing this in Thailand, however, could bring about trouble.

The Japanese pay attention to manners in public places like restaurants, hospitals and theaters. If you take a visit to Japan, you are not allowed to use mobile phones in these places.
