Passive voice of the past tense.

Ability Objects:

(1) Enable students to learn how potato ships were invented and improve students’ ability of listening and speaking.

(2) Learn and master the structure and usage of the passive voice of the past tense.

Moral Objects:

Some inventions are very helpful and important in our lives. They have changed the world a lot. Maybe one day you can also invent one of some useful inventions if you study hard. Believe in yourself. Nothing is impossible if you put your heart into it.

二、Analysis of the students:

The students in Grade 9 have learned English for a few years, so their listening and speaking skills have improved a lot. They can speak English fluently in class, but they are not active any more,because they don’t want to show themselves or they are afraid of making mistakes.

三、Teaching Key Points:

To learn to talk about how potato chips were invented by using the passive voice.

To train and improve students’ ability of listening and speaking.

Enable students to talk about how potato chips were invented by using the passive voice of the past tense.

五、Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Warming-up and Revision

T: In Section A ,we have talked about some inventions and about their history.

Then show some pictures of a car, a telephone, a computer, etc. And have students ask and answer in pairs like this:

S1: When was the computer invented?

S2: It was invented in 1971.

Step 2: Presentation:

T: Today we’ll learn about another kind of invention.( The teacher show a bag of potato chips and ask) What are these?

Ss: Potato chips.

T: What are they made of ?

Ss: They are made of potatoes.

T: Would you like to taste them?

Ss: Yes, I’d love to.

T: How do they taste?

Ss: Crispy and salty.

The teacher teaches the new words: crispy, salty. Then teach sour with a real lemon.
