Step 1 Revision

Review story time

Yesterday we learned the story time of Unit 5. And we know Mr Brown’s are doing different things in the morning and in the afternoon. Do you remember what they are doing? You can talk in pair first.

Step 2 Grammar time

Read and find.

Let’s look at the sentences. Read them and try to find something special.

Yes. We are now studying the present continuous tense.

Get the pattern.

As you know, we can find some different parts in the sentences.

… are subjects. …are linking words. They are important. Don’t forget to use them after the subjects. Then, we can find some words with the end of ing. It’s called present participle. We can also add some phrases about the time or the place.

Find the rules of present participle.

To use the present continuous tense correctly, we should pay attention to the form of the verb, present participle. We usually add ing at the end of a verb.

But when we meet the word like run and swim, we should double n or m. And then put ing at last.

When we make sentences with the word skate and make, what should we do? Yes, we delete the silent e and put ing here.

Learn how to ask.

Let’s focus on the sentences again. When we want to know someone is doing something, what question can we ask?

Step 3 Fun time

Play a game.

Boys and girls, can you use the present continuous tense well? Let’s have a look at fun time. The boy and the girl are playing a game by using the patterns on the blackboard.

When we see the words like listen, look or now, we usually use the present continuous tense. Don’t forget to use am/is/are.

Before doing Exercise 2, you should pay more attention to the difference between the present continuous tense and the simple present tense.
