The teacher must help students develop good study habits, master right learning methods and enhance comprehensive abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

III. Teaching aims

1. Knowledge aims：

（1）Learn the eight expressions about directions.

（2）Learn how to describe the location and area of sp. correctly.

（3）Know about the famous buildings in Tian’anmen Square.

2. Skill aims:

（1）Can describe and introduce the location of someplace correctly. （2）Be able to accurately describe the size and shape of objects.

（3）Can consolidate the language points, enhance their listening, speaking, reading and writing ability respectively.

3. Emotional aims:

Cultivate students' sense of cooperation, patriotism and the love for their hometown.

IV. The key points and difficult points

1. Key points:

（1）Words and expressions:

north, east, west, northwest, northeast, southeast, monument, rostrum, chairman, memorial, meaningful, lie(s) in/to/on, be meaningful to, can’t wait to do sth....

（2）Important Sentences:

a)It covers 440,000 square meters. It can hold one million people.

b) I can’t wait to see it.

c) The square must be meaningful to all Chinese people.

2. Difficult points：

（1） The differences and usage among position preposition“in”,“on”and“to”.

（2）Be able to read the names of famous buildings in Tian’anmen Square correctly.

V. Learning strategies

（1）Learn some new words by word formation, such as northwest, northeast, southeast, chairman, meaningful, and so on.

（2）Use association learning to understand and use new knowledge.

（2）In listening, reading and oral English tasks, learn to find out keywords, and then use them to complete the tasks.
