Step 1: Greetings and lead-in

T: Do you still remember our sports meet? Are you happy at that time? (PPT 2)

T: explain the meaning of event. Eg. There are many events like running, high and long jumps, ball throwing---explain the meaning of throw)

Did you win? Who is the winner? (Li Ming won first place , so he is a success/ He is successful.)

Step 2: Match the words with the meanings and do a small task .

Designing purpose : to consolidate the new words we learn.(PPT 3 and 4)

T: Danny also took part in the sports meet. How was his sports meet? Now, Let’s listen.

Step 3: listen.( exercise 1 in Let’s do it)

T: To know more about his sports day, you can read the lesson. Now, please read it.

Step 4: Read the lesson aloud and find out the answers. PPT 6 (exercise 2 in Let’s do it) Add up a question: Why didn’t Danny win first place?---Because his tail got in the way. (explain “get in the way”)

Step 5: Work in groups to find out the phrases. (PPT 7)

Step 6: Here are some words. Can you sort them?

Design purpose: Those past forms of verb are all from Lesson 39. By sorting, the students can consolidate them again, and understand the text better.

Step 7: Use those words correctly.

Design purpose: Learn the verbs deeply and understand them.

Step 8: Talk freely and do a report : Our last sports meet.

T: After answering the questions below, you can form your own report.

Step 9: Ask some students to do a report.

Step 10: sum up and homework.
