教学步骤:

Step 1 Lead in and warm up(5 minutes)

1. Show the title of the unit: They have seen the Pyramids.

2. Ask the students what they can think of seeing the title

3. Talk something about Egypt and see some pictures.

(导入环节设计目的:1) 展示标题引出“埃及”这一话题;2)鼓励学生谈论“埃及”这一话题,为正式进入阅读做好铺垫。)

Step 2 Reading comprehension

1. Skimming (3 minutes)

Read the passage on Page 12 very fast and choose the main idea of the passage.

A. Mike and Clare moved to Egypt with their parents in order to make more friends and learn to speak Arabic.

B. The Robinsons are in Cairo, Egypt now because the father works there. They have been to many places of interest there. But soon they are moving back to the US.

C. The Robinsons like seeing the world and learning to speak different languages so they have been to many different countries.

2. Scanning: scan for detailed information about Mike’s family in Egypt. (7 minutes)

Read the passage again carefully and complete the thinking map according to the detailed information in the passage.

(细读环节设计目的:在学生细读文章前展示思维导图及关键词,引导学生梳理文章细节,侧重培养学生分析所读内容及从总体把握文章的能力,避免“只见树木不见森林”。)

3. Post reading (5 minutes)

The students try to retell the passage according to the thinking map.

(归纳部分设计目的:前两部分阅读练习主要考查学生对文章内容的理解程度,而这一部分不仅需要学生语言输出,还从整体篇章的层面检验学生对主要内容的掌握。)

Step 3 Group work and presentation (15 minutes)

Read Passage A/B, work in groups and create a thinking map to show others what the passage is about.

The students will work in groups of five or six and each group will get a sheet with a passage on it. Each member is advised to read the passage first quickly and sum up the main idea. Then they should create a thinking map according to the detailed information, for example, when, where, who…. Some group leaders will be invited to present their work and retell the passage.

(小组任务设计目的:以小组合作,口头展示小组成果的形式作为语言输出。)

Step4 Summary and homework (1 minute)
