Difficulties:

The Passive Voice in the Past Tense: was /were + done

The difference of some phrase:

be made of /from /by /in /up into

be used for doing / to do / as ……

= 3 \* ROMAN III . Teaching steps :

Step 1. Revision

Review the Passive Voice in the Present Tense.

e.g. He speaks English. English is spoken by him.

2. Show some pictures. Students try to complete the sentence with the Passive Voice in the Present Tense.

e.g. Many people use computers. Computers are used by many people.

The workers plant trees in the garden. Trees are planted in the garden by the workers.

3.Brain storm. Do some exercise to review the Passive Voice in the Present Tense.

Step 2. Presentation.

Show a picture of a lock. Present the following sentences.

A; What’s the lock made of ?

B: It’s made of metal.

A: What’s it used for ?

B: It’s used for locking doors.

Students try to practice in groups and then in pairs.

Show more pictures, presents the use of be made from .Try to make the students find out the difference of be made of and be made from.

Present : When and where was it invented ?

Emphasize the use of was /were +done.

Step 3. Practice.

Students try to work in group of four. They try to make dialogues according to the pictures in 2a.

Then teacher asks some groups to present their dialogues in the front of the classroom.

Students try to summarize some phrase : be used for /to /by /as

Step 4. Consolidation.
