Teaching procedures
Step 1 Free talk
Give students a topic: If you want to buy some clothes, where will you go?
Part the students into some groups, then let them show their ideas.
Step 2 Presentation
Show the two pictures on the students’ books, ask them: What does she wear? Or What does he wear?
To make up a dialogue with their partner in groups, then show the dialogue in class.
To revise the old words and learn the new words(tie, boots) with the pictures.
Step 3 Presentation
1. Show students some photos of their classmates in class.
2. To make up a dialogue with partners about their classmates with their own words, then show the dialogues in class.
3. To use the classmates’ photos, it not only can set off their interest, but also can improve their oral English.
Step 4 Practise
1. Show the pictures on page 87 to students, and ask them to ask and answer questions like this:
A: What is the boy/ girl wearing?
B: He/ She is wearing…
A: What color is it/ are they?
B: It’s / They’re pink/…2. Then ask students to put the words in the correct boxes and check the answers with them
Step 5 Extension activity
Ask students to collect some fashion magazines before class. Pass the magazines around and each student cuts out a few pictures of models in different clothes. The students can then cut out their heads from their own photos and paste their heads onto the models’ faces. Tell them to use these pictures to make up their own conversations.
Step 6 Listening and answering
T : We all have lots of clothes. Do you need to choose what to wear every morning? What about Eddie? Listen to the tape and answer:
1. Does Eddie need to wear clothes?
2. What can he do then?
3. What do you think of him?
Step 7 Listening and repeating
Ask students to listen to the tape again and repeat the comic strip sentence by sentence.
Step 8 Explaining and reading
Explain some language points to students and give them some examples. Then ask them to read the conversation together.
