Step 1.Lead-in

1. Story time: enjoy a short video about the sun and the wind. Guide the students to listen for some words about the weather.

2.Free talk on the sun and the wind in Nanjing.

Step 2.Presentation

1.Have the students express their feelings about four seasons in Nanjing with the aid of some vivid pictures and uncompleted contexts.

2.Ask more questions about activities in different seasons and present more related words especially adjectives.

3.Show sample sentences about weather in different seasons and have the students fill in the blanks.

4. Encourage the students to conclude two rules of using adjectives from the examples.

We use an adjective before a noun to describe a thing or a person.

We can use adjectives after the verb be (e.g. am, is, are).

Step 3.Practice

1.Complete Lin Tao and Daniel's talk on the Internet about the weather in their hometowns.

2. Find out some adjectives in Lin Tao and Daniel's online conversation.

3. Guide the students to find out and summarize how to form some of the adjectives.

Sometimes we can turn a noun into an adjective by adding –y to the word.

4. Have the students pay attention to the spelling change if necessary, such as sunny, funny and foggy.

5. Let the students complete the sentences with the adjectives from the box.

Step 4.Task

1. Show the weather in different cities in China in different seasons. Ask a student to make a dialogue with the teacher as an example.

2. Have the students make dialogues in pairs.

3. Further discussion about activities that people can enjoy if they go to Harbin in summer or in winter.

4. Guide the students to find out the rule It is + adjective + to do sth. according to sample sentences.

Step 5.Practice

1. Have the students put the given words and phrases into correct order to make sentences under the pictures.

2. Give the students some adjectives and pictures to choose. Encourage them to make sentences and share in groups of 4.

Step 6.Application

1. Guide the students to finish the poem Four Seasons of Life. Complete the sentence "When I go to school, it is summer. It is ________ to ____________________" with their own understanding of life.

2. Summarize the 4 rules found by the students themselves. Encourage them to use more adjectives to sing a song for seasons and for the life.

Homework

1. Complete Lin Tao and Daniel's conversation about the weather and their plan for a trip (旅行计划). Make more sentences if they can.
