Pre-listening

To draw the Ss’ attention and show them the background information of the topic today.

Students get to know how to read and describe the map.

Predict before listening.Tell the background information of the story.

Ask the students to complete the map and try to describe it with the help of coordinates.

Ask the students to predict what should be filled into the blanks before listening.Ss play the game and complete the map.

Try to predict the possible answers.Step 2

While-listeningTo practice the listening skills of catching and taking down the key words and important information.

Get to know the setting of the event and prepare for further oral practice.

Show the Ss the progress of the story: Where Liz and Gus are & What should they do.

Task 1:

Ask the Ss to listen to the tape once and fill in the blanks on the map.

Task 2:

Ask the Ss to listen to the tape once again and answer the questions.

Task 1:

Fill in the blanks and students gives the answer directly and quickly.

Task 2:

Listen to the tape and tell answers in full sentences based on the notes.Step 3

After-listening/SpeakingReview the adverbial clause of reason (because/as/since).

Learn the expressions of agreeing and disagreeing.Ask the Ss to create further developments of the story: which route and equipment to choose.

Task 1:

Show the Ss three possible routes from the crashing spot to the landing site. An example will be given on the PPT before Ss’ discussion.

Ask Ss to discuss and then decide on which route to take and tell the reasons.

Requirement: When telling the reasons, because/as/since clause must be used.

Task 2:

Show the answers of the homework previously assigned: summarize some expressions of agreeing and disagreeing.

Show some equipment on the PPT and ask Ss to decide on which five things to choose if they are Liz and Gus, then come to the stage to challenge another group which takes the same route. The two groups have a short debate on their solutions.

Requirement: use the expressions of agreeing or disagreeing and give reasons. Task1:
