Teacher: I am very happy today because one of my friends is coming to see me. But what can I do for her?

(Teacher asks several students to answer the question)

Teacher: ok. Good. She has many hobbies, like eating, shopping and travelling. “What places can I take her to do some shopping?” “What famous places can I take her to enjoy the places of interest?” “What delicious food can I take her to eat?”

(Teacher shows three groups of pictures about food, shopping center and famous places. And then she asks students to fill in blanks of the sentences)

This step is designed to introduce Suzhou culture, motivate students’ learning interest and lead in the new lesson.

Presentation of the conversation

Teacher: ok, good job, boys and girls. Students from Sunshine Middle School are also very happy today. Do you know why?

Students: their friends are coming too.

Teacher: yeah, because some exchange students are coming!

(Teacher shows pictures of exchange students and then writes down ‘exchange students’ on the blackboard)

Students read the new words after teacher.

Teacher: what can they do for the exchange students? Let’s listen and answer which places will they take them to?

Teacher plays the audio and listens to the conversation with students.

After listening, teacher asks several students and writes down the places on the blackboard.

Teacher: what will they do in different places? Have you got that?

Students: …

Most students cannot answer the question after one time listening. So teacher plays the audio again.

Similarly, students are asked to answer the questions independently.
