1.to develop the Ss' abilities of reading?

四、学情分析My target learners are grade 8Ss, who are quick in thought and curious for English learning. According to New English Curriculum, our teaching should be Ss oriented. So, a variety of tasks and activities such as pair work, group discussion and team competition will be adopted to develop Ss awareness of cooperation and competition.

五、教学方式选择与规划For breaking through the teaching focuses and difficulties, I’d prefer to adopt 3 teaching methods: task-based language teaching method, the Communicative approach and the Natural Approach.

Step1 warm-up

Now?let’s?enjoy?some?pictures?to?get?more?information?about?some?wild?animals.

Listen what teacher saysPurpose:?Let?the?students?show?great?interest?in?English?class?by?reviewing?what?they?learned?in?last?class?. Recall?the?students?to?show?more?love?to?animals?at?the?same?time.

Step2:Pre -reading

Firstly, I will ask them“Do you know which one is our ?country’treasure among these wild animals?” Most of Ss will say giant pandas. Then, I will continue to ask “Do you know something about giant pandas?”Ss may give different answers.such as they like eating bamboo leaves and shoots.This step aims to provide them with background knowledge about the topic, and draw their attention to the story of XiWang

Step3:While -reading

Task1.Skimming and Scanning

Ss are required to listen to the tape then answer some questions.

Ss will have a brief understanding of the article.

Task2.

Careful reading

Ss are divided into 4 groups and required to grasp the main idea of each paragraph and find out the several growth stages of XiWang.

This step helps Ss to have a deeper understanding of the article
