Step1. Lead-in

To tell a short story and show some pictures about Marco Polo.

Step2. General Reading

1. Ss skim the text. Find out the information about Marco Polo and fill out the form on the Bb:

? Name: Marco Polo? Born (when/where):? Came to China (when):? Purpose:? Languages (how many):? Returned to Italy (when):? Age of his death:? The name of his book:2. Listen to the article to get the main ideas of the text. After listening, match each paragraph with the main idea in Ex.2.

Step3. Intensive reading

Group discussion

Read the passage carefully to find out the language points:

1.by在…旁边,附近

They want to rent a house by the river.

2.grow up长大

grow –grew-grown

He wants to be a doctor when he grows up.

3.set off 出发,启程
