Step 1 Lead-in

1. Watch a video

T: Welcome to the English class. Let’s enjoy a short video first.

After playing the video, T asks:What main character do you see in the video?

S: A girl.

T: Is she common or special?

S: She is special because she has a tail.

T: Good. We call a girl who has a fish tail Mermaid.

T leads Ss to practice reading the new word Mermaid many times.

2. Show the cover of the storybook The Little Mermaid

T: This is The Little Mermaid. Is she real in our daily life?

S: No.

T: Right. It comes from a fairytale(童话). Have you ever read this fairytale? T leads Ss to practice reading the word Fairytale.

T leads Ss to make a conclusion: The little mermaid comes from a fairytale.

Q: Do you know who the writer is?

T: In Chinese, we call him安徒生. In English, we call him Andersen.

3. T Introduces Andersen and some of his other fairytales.
