2.New structures: What’s the proper way to greet people there?

British people only greet relatives or close friends with a kiss.

They’ll say “excuse me” and be polite enough to wait till you move.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty

1. To use the important words and phrases correctly.

2. To make an interview and learn about good manners in China.

IV. Teaching procedures

Step1 Lead-in

Review the topic

T: We’ve learned an interview named When in Rome. Do you think British people have good manners? What do they do when they greet people, when they start a conversation, when they are in public, when they are at home?

Step2 Revision

T: Now we’ll review the four situations. Let’s have an interview with your partner. One asks the question, and the other answers the question. Group 1&2 talk about greetings, group 3&4 talk about conversation, group 5&6 talk about in public, and the last two groups talk about at home. Work in groups, please.

Step3 Language points

That’s all for revision. Now, please take out your learning sheets. First, learn the language points by yourselves then I will ask one of you to come to the front to show your answers.

Step4 Discussion

1.Enjoy a video and learn something.

Boys and girls, remember to show good manners and pass them on.

2.We’ve learnt about the good manners in the UK. It’s time for you to say something about good manners in China. Discuss this in groups and answer the questions in Part C on page 69, then I will ask some of you to share you ideas.

Step5 Homework

1.Review the words and expressions.

2.Preview Grammar on page 70.
