Step 1 导入:

复习前一节课所学的弱势群体的名称以及帮助他们的途径,然后过渡到新课,教师说: Those deaf people, blind people and disabled people need our help. They have physical disabilities. Another group of people need our help too. They have intellectual disabilities. 板书 intellectual disabilities,并向学生解释其中文释义为“智障”

在听完部分学生的想法后,教师说:Besides what you’ve mentioned, there’s another way to help them. We can volunteer for the Special Olympics World Games.引出本板块的主题。教师板书 the Special Olympic World Games, 问学生:The Special Olympic Games are different from other events, have you heard of this event? Can you tell me something about it? 如果学生对特奥会不了解,教师可以简单介绍。然后教师板书并且带读生词:athlete, adult, chance.教师接着问: If you are a volunteer, what will you do for the games?

Step 2 呈现:

教师呈现2007年上海特奥会的比赛图片,对学生说:Look at the pictures carefully and answer my questions.让学生回答以下问题:

What events are included in the Special Olympic World Games?

What do you think of the athletes?

鼓励学生大胆回答,在问答中教师导入生词,如:Yes, some events are similar to those in the Olympics. Those athletes are confident an d they achieve their dreams.通过一系列的问题,呈现生词和词组,如:similar to, confident, achieve等。教师板书生词并带读。

Step 3 阅读:

教师说: Today we will read a report on the experience of a volunteer.让学生快速阅读课文,并回答下列问题:

What is the name of the volunteer?

What do volunteers need to do for the Special Olympics World Games?

让学生分段阅读,归纳每段大意,完成B1部分的练习。

给出一定的时间限制,让学生进行细节阅读。逐一阅读课文的各个段落,并回答以下问题:

Paragraph 1:

What did Liu Ming do in October 2007?

What did he think of his experience?

Paragraph 2:

What are the Special Olympics World Games for?

What events are included in the Special Olympics World Games?

Paragraph 3:

How many people gave up their spare time for the 2007 Special Olympics World Games?

What did those volunteers do for the Games?

再次播放录音,让学生大声跟着读课文。

Step 4 操练:

完成B2部分的练习,全班核对答案。

男女生分角色朗读B2部分的对话,让学生用答案替换划线部分。

完成B3部分的练习,并更正错误。
