Say : Luckily, there’s a charity called ORBIS coming to help them.
Show Ss the logo of ORBIS and ask:
What does the logo look like? Why is there a plane in the logo?
(It looks like an eye. ORBIS helps people with blindness or other eye problems. ORBIS uses a Flying Eye Hospital to fly around the world to help people.)
Show Ss a picture of a Flying Eye Hospital and say: ORBIS doctors work on the plane. That means they work on board.
Show Ss a picture of an ORBIS examining a patient and say：ORBIS doctors treat sick people on board. When the patients are completely well, we can say ORBIS doctors cure them.
Show Ss a picture of ORBIS doctors operating on a patient and say: ORBIS doctors operate on patients on board. They do operations on patients.
Teach the new words like “blindness, on board, treat, cure, patient”.
Get Ss to match the new words with the meanings(Part B1).
7) Say: ORBIS doctors do a lot to help patients. Today we’ll meet an ORBIS doctor, Dr Ma. An interviewer is having an interview with Dr Ma. Would you like to know what they talk about? Today we’ll learn Reading---- An interview with an ORBIS doctor.
While-reading
1) Get Ss to read the interview quickly and silently and find out the answer to the question: How many people did Dr Ma operate on during his last visit?
2) Get Ss to listen to the tape and read the interview again and then work in groups to divide the text into four parts.
3) Get boys to read Part 1 and girls to fill in the blanks.
Get girls to read Part 2 and boys to complete a chart about the work of ORBIS.
T reads Part 3 and get Ss to judge whether the sentences about Dr Ma’s work and his feeling true or false.
Get Ss to listen to the tape about Part 4 and choose the correct answers.
4) Get Ss to put the sentences together (Part B3).
5) Get Ss to watch the video of the interview and read after it. Remind Ss to imitate pronunciation and intonation and pay attention to their speed. Then get Ss to read in roles.
4. Post-reading
1) Get Ss to complete the article about the interview(Part B4).
2) Get Ss to work in groups and have an interview with “Dr Ma”.
