T: What’s it? What does it do to help others?

WWF:It helps protect the wildlife and the nature.

Oxfam: It helps people in poor countries and tries to build a fair world.

ORBIS: It helps blind people see again.

UNICEF: It provides poor children with food, health care and education.

Before listening

Ss: It provides food, health care and basic education for poor children.

It works for the equal rights of girls and women, too.

Daniel has found some information about UNICEF. Let’s read A1 and see what he has got.

Ask students to read A1 together and then answer some questions. Explain some phrases if necessary.

Q2. When and where was it set up?

Q3. Why was it set up?

Q4. How many countries and areas does UNICEF work in?

While listening

1. Listen and put the sentences into the correct order (A2)

T: Some information about UNICEF is in wrong order. Please listen to the tape and put them in the correct order.

(Ask students to read the sentences quickly before listening. In this way, they will find it easier to accomplish the task.)

2. Listen again and try to follow the tape without looking at the sentences in their books.

设计意图:在完成听力任务前引导学生先快速阅读已有的相关书面信息,从而为听力降低难度。完成任务后要求学生跟着听力材料大声复述,一方面可以进一步锻炼学生的听力,因为这时候需要他们要听懂每一个单词,或者至少大部分单词,而不仅仅是一些关键词;另一方面可以同时锻炼学生的口语。听说是不分家的,口语提高了,听力也能提高;反之,锻炼听力的时候也不能忘记练习口语。
