Teaching procedures:

A How green are you?

Step 1 Lead in

T: How can we we live a green life? What can we do to protect the environment in our daily life? On the one hand, review what they’ve learned, on the other hand, lead in part A and encourage students to talk freely

T: Protecting the environment is very important. W e can help protect the environment by doing some simple things, such as turning off the tap when brushing our teeth, taking shrter showers,using both sides of the paper and recycling empty bottels. Lead in new contents: turn off the tap、empty

Step 2. Listening

Let students read the sheet in part A1 and pay attention to the key words:Time ; Place ;Number of students; Number of questions and prepare for following listening.

T: The Class 1,Grade 8 students want to do a survey on their daily habits. Then play the radio and let them finish A1. T: Let’s listen to the conversation and finish the table in Part A1. Teachers can play the radio once again .

T: Daniel and Sandy are talking about the results of survey. Play the radio of part A2. Then let students finish exercises.

Let students speak sentences in A2 by using complete sentences. Then check answers together:

Thirty-five students turn off the tap when they brush their teeth.

Twenty students take showers for less than ten minutes

Forty students use both sides of the paper

Fifteen students recycle empty bottles

Forty-one students turn off the lights when they leave a room

Nine students take their own bags to the supermarket

Students finish A3 by themselves. Reminding students finish it according to A1 and A2. Check answers together to enhance their memory

Step 3 Activity

Work in groups of four and survey others’ daily environmental protection habits. T: Let’s do a survey, work in groups of four and ask your group members about their daily habits. Then write a short passage about the results and report it to the class.

Choose some groups of different level to say out their dialogues

B Speak up: We can plant more trees.

Step 1 Presentation

Establish situation and present new knowledge to students. T: Now you’ve learnt a lot about what you can do to protect the environment. Can anybody tell me some other ways to protect the environment? Let students talk about it and prepare for part B

T: Sandy and Kitty are also talking about how to protect the environment. Listen to their conversation and tell what they can do. Play the radio of part B and let students listen the radio with questions. Then answer question :They can plant more trees.

Play the radio again and find out mentioned advantages of planting trees in this dialogue.

Trees make our town look nicer

Trees reduce dust and help keep the air clean

Trees help keep soil in place during storms

Trees provide home for animals
