Teaching aims:
By the end of the class, students will be able to
read, speak and understand some words and expressions related to health ;
know if they healthy enough according to some standards;
3. retell the story of Hokusai according to the word map;
4. entitle a passage according to the topic sentence.
Difficult point:
Students will have difficulty retelling the story because they might not a good command of English when speaking it.
Warming-up
Ask the students to think of as many words as the can, which are related to the topic. This is done by group work. After they are done, choose a group to do presentation and the other groups can add and correct.
To introduce the related words by a mind map, which is a brainstorm used to arouse the knowledge they have and at the same time, to build a cooperative atmosphere for the later activities.
Step1- Pre- reading (Introduce the topic )
Give students “yes, or no” questions to answer and let them count how many marks they get.
Let them share in groups and the teacher ask some of the students if they are healthy according to the standards.
Give the students some Chinese and English sayings about health and let them translate.
Give the students a picture of a boy and let them guess the health condition of him.
By giving a test, let the students know some standards of health and meanwhile to arouse their interests.
To let students know some old good sayings about health.
To train the student ability to make predictions according to pictures.
Step 2-While-reading
Let the student finish the exercises in their worksheet.
Let the students design a mind map of the story of ZhouKai passage 1 in groups and ask them to retell the story according to the map.
Let the students to find the topic sentence of passage 2 and entitle the passage according to the topic sentence.
Let the students to understand two difficult sentences and the word “ fit” and the phrase “have a sweet tooth”
