Teaching steps:

Step 1 Before reading:

Introduction of Bernard Shaw and his works. Introduction of the Greek mythology, Pygmalion

Step 2 Reading:

Get the students to read the play and then answer questions so that they are familiar with the plot.

Step 3 Movie dubbing

Before class, the students work in groups to dub the movie. In class, it’s time for them to show their teamwork. It’s a very interesting way to work together to use their voices to interpret their understanding of the characters and experience the importance of a person’s language to his social position.

Step 4 Appreciation.

Analyze characters and their society position. Students are asked to write down some adjectives that they think can best describe the characters after group discussion.

Step 5 Analyze the theme.

Ask the students to discuss and share their ideas about theme of the play. And then conclude by presenting Pygmalion Effect.

Step6 Conclusion.

Use a quote from the play Pygmalion, by Bernard Shaw to conclude the class.

Use of multimedia is to arouse the students interests.

Movie dubbing is to encourage group work and cooperation spirit.

Group discussion is to encourage critical thinking ability.
