Teaching procedures:
Step 1Lead-in
Greetings.
Show the students three pictures of military training, asking them “How do you feel when thinking back to those days? ”
Step 2Brainstorming
What will your senior high school life be like?
Step 3Video watching
Show the students two videos, one is school life in our school, and the other is a school day of a Western high school student.
Step 4Discussion
Ask the students to work in a group of four, and try to find out the differences between the lives of Chinese and British high school students.
Ask different students to share their opinions with others.
Step 5Presentation
Show the students several groups of pictures, to tell some of the differences.
Show the students a letter, which was written by a group of US students to Chinese President Xi Jinping. Ask one student to read out.
Show the reply letter of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Step 6Free talking
What is your dream school life like?
Tell the students what the teachers will be like, and what the teachers expect them to be like, as well as the relationship between them.
Step 7Summary
Play a recording of a letter from a graduate, to inspire the students to be optimistic and strong-willed in face of difficulties.
Play a short video with encouraging words.
Step 8Homework
Preview the passage School life in the UK.
