Analysis of teaching materials:
The purpose of skills building 3 is to help students learn how to use correct punctuation to make their writing clear and easy to read. In step 3, students are asked to write an e-mail to give some advice and encourage a friend to lose weight and become strong. They will first read an e-mail written by Li Fan , Hu Bo’s friend, which is a sample to show them how to encourage and advise a friend with a problem. They should not only use what they have learnt in Step1 and Step 2 but also use the correct punctuation marks to write their e-mails.
Teaching aims:
1. Aims of knowledge:
a. Help students learn how to use some common punctuation marks in their writing.
b. Inspire students to brainstorm a lot of expressions showing comfort and
encouragement.
c. Help Ss grasp the structure and language of an e-mail of encouragement.
2. Aims of skills:
a. Improve the students’ speaking ability through inspiration and encouragement.
b. Develop students’ writing abilities through structure and language.
3. Aims of emotion and values:
a. Help students to develop the ability to think and summarize
b. Encourage students share their teenager’ problems.
c. Learn to show comfort and encouragement to others.
