Knowledge aims: to enlarge the students’ vocabulary about items for a holiday and learn more about adventures.

Ability aims: to get them use these items to talk about preparing an adventure holiday.

Emotional aims: Encourage students to love China and make good preparations before travelling.

Key point and difficult point:

Master the new items on page 26 and learn to use them to talk about preparing an adventure holiday.

Teaching and learning methods:

Situational teaching method, task-based teaching methods, multi-medium teaching method. Double activity learning method, group-work learning method, etc.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Leading in

Greet students and divide them into 2 teams and ask them to have a competition.

Then ask students two questions :

(1) Do you like traveling?

(2) If you are going on an adventure holiday, what should you take into consideration?

Set up a situation and show pictures of Toby and Colin’s adventure in Africa such as the Sahara Desert, wild animals, the River Nile and so on to arouse their interest.

Step 2 Task-based reading (New words learning)

Have students read part A on page 26 and find out what Colin wants to take and why. They should pay attention to the words in blue.

Afterwards, ask one student to present his or her answers. At the same time, pictures of these items that Colin wants to take will be showed on the scream.

Have students read after the teacher and make sure they can master these words.

Make them find out the reasons why he wants to take these things.

Step 3 Group discussion (Vocabulary extension)

Show the questions below on the screen and get the whole class have a discussion.

(1) Do you think Colin has made good preparations for his travel?

(2) If you are going on an adventure like this, what else will you take to make your holiday comfortable, safe and happy?

Encourage all students take active part in the discussion. Have four students show his or her opinions.

Show the items that Colin can take and have students read after the teacher to make sure they can master these words.
