Teaching Procedure:

Step One: Leading-in

Ask students “What is language?” Give them the definition of language.

Show “emoticons”, “sign language”, “Braille alphabet” and “Bee dance”.

Watch a video “ how to say thank you in different languages”.

Step Two: Reading Strategy -- How to read a history article?

Ask students to conclude themselves: Pay attention to dates and years; make a time chart.

Step Three: Reading Comprehension

1 Skim. Read the text quickly and answer three questions.

2 Scan. Read carefully: answer questions, fill in the blanks and make a time chart.

3 True or false. Give students 4 sentences and make a judgment.

4 Tick the German way of making plurals.

Step Four: Post-reading Activities

1 Present usages of some words and practise.

2 Ask students to discuss the questions.

Step Five: Homework

Write down the discussion.

Finish corresponding exercises.
