Step 1 Lead-in
Arouse students’ interest and lead into the topic by telling a true story:
I’m quite upset today, do you know why? Last weekend, one of my American friends invited me to have dinner in Nan ya Hotel. Thinking of having a free meal, I was quite happy to accept his invitation. Knowing that my friend is quite rich, I ordered some expensive dishes. After the meal, my friend got the bill and said to me: “Jenny, you need to pay 200 Yuan.” I was quite shocked. You invited me to have dinner and I accepted your invitation because I expected to have a free meal, but now you expected me pay my own share! What’s wrong?
Later, my friend explained to me that when several people have dinner together, it is their customs to share the bill. While in China it is our customs for the host to pay for the guests.
From this experience, I find out it necessary to learn customs in different countries.
Step2 (1) Different Greetings
