Step1: Lead-in

1.Brainstorming

As we all know, reading plays an important role in our daily life and we often have chances to appreciate good books. They bring us pleasure and knowledge. So we are often lost in good books, especially some world-famous works. But in modern society, few people read classics. Ask students to discuss about this phenomenon.

A quick scan of any list of the most read children's books will reveal (揭示)that today's youngsters are growing up in a very different literary landscape(文学领域) to their parents.

Gone from bedroom bookshelves(书架) are the Famous Five《著名五人帮》, the Chronicles of Narnia《纳尼亚传奇》, and the adventures of the Swallows and Amazons《燕子与鹦鹉》.

And as for the 19th Century classics of English literature, such as Emily Bronte and Charles Dickens, many children simply have not heard of them.

Discussion

By introducing all of the pictures, teacher will ask students to share about their feelings and the reading experiences.

Step2: Fast reading

Go through the passage as quickly as possible and try to find answers to all the questions provided.

Questions: 1.What kind of literature does the author want us to appreciate? Classic literature.

2. Who is Charles Dickens?

He is one of England’s greatest writers.

3.Which book does the author mainly introduce to us?

Great Expectations.

Step 3 Careful reading

Part I. Let students read the part I carefully and complete the table on the preview sheet, and then have a test about the literature culture.
