模块八 Module VIII Appreciating literature and art《Reading(1):Appreciating literature》公开课教案优质课下载

Wuthering heights is a story about love and revenge. It follows the life of Heathcliff, a mysterious gypsy-like person, from his childhood to his death at the age of 38. It is set on the moors in West Yorkshire, an area Emily Bronte knew and loved. It is the only novel she ever published. Besides the main theme of love, the conflict between nature and civilization is also reflected in the relationship between Heathcliff and his rival, Edgar Linton. Many people found it strange and shocking, but couldn’t help reading it. So it is a classic novel.

The analysis of the students:

The students of my class are senior high one students. They have mastered some reading skills and a relatively large vocabulary, which enables them to read Helbling Series 1. However, some students still have great trouble in getting along with the novel because of their poor reading ability. Therefore, it is the teacher’s duty to help them by giving them some guidance in reading.

Teaching methods:

Explanation, discussion, task-based reading

Teaching aims:

To help students to better enjoy the novel Wuthering Heights.

To improve students’ reading skills such as skimming, scanning, predicting and inferring.

To learn how to properly deal with the relationships among people and know the importance of education.

To improve students’ reading ability by drawing family trees.

Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

Lead in the topic by asking the following questions:

Do you like reading?

What kind of book do you like best? (fiction, novel, classical ones or modern ones...)

Have you ever read any foreign books? What about Wuthering Heights?.

(The students can be easily stimulated since the questions are easy for them to open the floor..)

Step 2 Brief introduction to the author

Emily Jane Bront? ( 30 July 1818–19 December 1848) was an English novelist and poet who is best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights, now considered a classic of English literature. Emily was the third-eldest of the four surviving Bront? siblings, between the youngest Anne and her brother Branwell. She wrote under the pen name Ellis Bell. Her other two sisters were also well-known writers, of whom Charlotte Bronte published Jane Eyre in 1847 while Anne Bronte also published Agnes Grey in 1847.

(This section is used to introduce some background knowledge of the novel, especially that of the three world famous writers, which can attract the students.)
