to get to feel the beauty of classic literature and even to appreciate them

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 : Warm-up

Show the students some pictures concerning the teaching’s experience of reading classics in her college life and lead in the topic.

Step 2: Careful reading of Part 1

Question:What are classics? (Individual work)

Discussion: Will the classics disappear over time? Why? (Group work)

Step 2: Careful reading of Part 2

The students are asked to fill in a form concerning the information about the life and work of Charles Dickens

Step 3: Careful reading of Part 3

The students are asked to analyze the five main elements of the novel Great Expectation based on some tasks, such as filling in a chart, filling a form and so on.

Step 4: Analyze the structure of the test

Through analyzing the structure of the test, the students are required to ponder over the author’s intention of writing this article, thus leading to the topic of writing a persuasive essay.

Step 5: Reanalyze the ending paragraph of the test

Question: Does the author succeed in writing a persuasive essay.

The students are asked to pay attention to the role of the three questions in the ending part, and to analyze their function.

Step 6: Task-a mini-writing

The students are asked to write his or her ending for this novel with the three questions in mind.
