模块九 Module IX Communicating with other cultures《Reading(1):The Acropolis now》集体备课教案优质课下载

Stage one Preparation

At the beginning, inform the students the importance of the task and the ways to do it. First, ask the students to conduct the task in seat order. They can do it by themselves , in pairs or in groups. The performance can be a speech, a dialogue , or a short play. According to the different levels of the students, they can choose different materials. For the first round, they can introduce themselves, which seems to be much easier. After that, the students have known each other very well and becomes friends, so they may tell something about their classmates and their teachers. Some of the students who are interested in English may find some short plays on the internet, some may adapt a famous play and some write a short play themselves, and they form a group by themselves and prepare the play between classes or after school, from which they benefit a lot. Meanwhile the teacher should give the students enough encouragement and help necessarily.

Stage two Presentation

While preparing, the students on duty have learnt a lot from the material, but the most important thing is that the whole class can also get something so that they can understand the performance better. So, the performer should first write the new words on the blackboard before class, sometimes with phonetics if necessary. Even some students would explain the new words and ask the whole class to read after them.

While presenting, performers who. are required to get fully prepared must not look at their notes. (They should memorise the new words and can use them freely). They should be able to draw the attention of the whole class, and make themselves understood.

Some can even win the admiration from the whole class.

For example, one of the boy students ,who was very poor at pronunciation at first, was not so confident in doing the duty report, even sometimes was laughed at by his classmates. When I got to know it, I gave him some encouragement and adviced him to imitate something first. Later, when it is his turn to do the duty report, his speech turned out to be an astonishing one. Everyone was struck by his emthusiastic and clear English with American accent. At the end of his speech, he wrote: ‘Every morning I told myself: I believe in myself! I have confidence in myself. I have every confidence in my ability to succeed. If I can’t do it, nobody can!’. At that moment, I asked him to read aloud each of his sentences, and asked the whole class to read aloud after him. The whole class were influenced by him at the beginning of the first class in the morning that day.

Some girl students who are very interested in performing adapted some famous plays, such as: Cinderila, Dahuxiyou, The little red cap and so on. They formed groups and appointed directors and cast themselves. Though the lines are difficult and there were a lot of new words in the plays, they practiced the lines hard after class. When the time for them to perform, they did present a perfect short play with costumes and props. Some students who were not good at Enlish played so well that both the teachers (I invited the classteacher) and students were surpried, and the students themselves got confidence and interest to learn Enlish.

Stage three evaluation

Most of performers would certainly get applaus after the daily report. After that, the teacher may ask the students to voice their opinion, and then surely the teacher will give a comment. It all depends on whether the performers have given a wonderful performance. If it is a good one, it will arouse many warm evaluation. If it is not, the teacher of the students will give some suggestion or corrections necessarily. Performers can also get a lot of fun from the teacher’s evaluation. For example, one of the girl stutents said in her third round duty report that “…… this is the third time that I do the duty report. I remember that after my first duty report, my teacher said to me in a soft voice that: OK, a good job! But would you please speak louder next time? And after the second one, my teacher told me with a smile: would you please make yourself heard next time? (laughing )…”this is absolutely beyond expectation. And this time she had attract the attention from the whole class.

At this stage, the most important thing is that the teacher should give encouragement first and them correction. When the majority of the students can not understand the performance, the teacher should of course do some explanation.

Summary:

Doing duty report or giving performance before class is just one of the very many ways of enlarging students’ vocabulary. After these years of practice, students’ interest of learing English can be aroused; interesting stories among students and even the teachers can be elicited; the students’ ability of speaking in public can be trained. Above all, the students’ vocabulary are enlarged.
