Step1 Lead-in

(S) Before class, watch a Ted video about gene-edited babies and CRISPR and find out the topic of the speech.

(I) The students can get to know the technology and the topic of Passage 1is also naturally presented.

Step2 Fast reading of Passage 1

(S) 1 minute to go through Passage 1 and find out the topic of the passage.

(I) The students are challenged and can get familiar with fast reading strategies.

(T) Guide the students to focus on the subtitles and read Paragraph 1 again carefully so that they can use Reading Strategy 1 to find the actual topic of the passage.

(S) Find out the purpose of the passage and clarify the requirements for expository articles.
