Ⅱ Teaching Procedures (Ss=students, T=teacher)

Step 1 Lead-in3 minutes

Ss are to work in pairs and share their views about the following two questions.

1. Are your parents strict with you?

2. Do you like the way you are raised?

Step 2 Reading22 minutes

Read to understand

1) Ss share their summaries of the two passages assigned to give a quick overview of them.

2) Ss are guided to find the information step by step.

Who?

(What kinds of parenting methods are introduced in the passages?)

What?

(What are the characteristics of tiger moms and pushy parents?)

How?

(How do people view the two parenting methods?)

Why?

(Why do people approve or disapprove of the parenting method?)

Read to analyze

1) Ss voice their opinions about “tiger” parenting/hyper-parenting with the evidence from the passages.

2) Ss read Passage C and use the mind map to illustrate the features and the results of authoritative parenting.

3. Read to evaluate

Ss work in groups of four to discuss the ideal parenting methods.

Step 3 Activity: Write a letter back to Tigermom 14 minutes
