The reading passage in this unit offers a very brief history of the English language. On one hand, since it presents information in time order, it is best to make students understand the detailed content better by making these events in order. On the other hand, the key sentence for each paragraph is obvious so that the passage can be used as a good example to present students the reading strategy about how to get the main idea of a paragraph and a whole passage.

Analysis of the students

Having learned the warming up part, students are familiar with what this unit is about and interested in more information about the English language a lot, of which we, English teachers should take advantage to lead in the reading. Facing the problem that a number of students’ vocabulary is limited, it is necessary for the teacher to make full preparation and presumption for vocabulary teaching and reading strategies. Only in this way can we help them accomplish all tasks fluently and students’ imagination and creativity will be improved greatly.
