Teaching Procedures:

Step 1 Warming up

Present pictures about the Spring Festival along with the sentence:

(1) Jackie Chen, a famous movie star from Hongkong, performed brilliantly in a show of the 2017 Spring Festival.

(2) The Spring Festival,Chinese New Year, is?the?most?important traditional celebration for?all?of?us.

Ask students to read the sentences and try to understand their meaning and then ask them what kind of grammatical phenomenon they can find.Therefore, they can know what the appositive is like.

Make them think about the relation between the words “a famous movie star from Hongkong”and “Jackie Chen”;“Chinese New Year” and “The Spring Festival”. Then come to the conclusion: The latter is appositive of the former. And today we’re going to learn the appositive and its clause.

Step 2 Presentation: appositive

1. Present its definition, structure, place, function and its special structure.

(1) Definition: a modifier, indicating identification, position, title etc.

(2) Place: close to each other, sometimes separated from other words.

e.g.We love our country, China.

Do you know the famous writer Guo Jing Ming?

An unusual present was given to him for his birthday, a book on cooking.

2. Practice (Show some sentences on the PPT. Ss are questioned and required to analyze the sentence to make sure they have a better understanding of the appositive.)
