1. The topic of the unit is about the life of Peking Man living in Zhoukoudian Caves.

2. It is an extensive reading class, in which students will try to improve their reading ability and practice reading skills.

Analysis of students：

1. The students have some basic knowledge and skills of reading a passage but need to practice more on how to summarize the main idea and how to focus on the needed information quickly.

2. They need encouragement and chances to express their opinions and improve self-confidence.

Teaching aims：

After this reading class, students will be able to achieve the following aims:

1. get a basic knowledge of the life of Peking Man;

2. understand the Peking Man's effort and set up a correct attitude towards their own life;

3. improve students' ability to focus on the needed information and summarize the main idea of a narration;

4. understand the importance of diligence in improving or changing the bad condition.

Important point:

Students are able to understand the content of the reading material.

Difficult points:

Whether students could get a deeper understanding of the life;

How to improve the ability to summarize the main idea of the narrations.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Warming up

Students warm up with an interesting cartoon named” Modern Primitive”, in which we can see many factors of primitive life. Students discuss to find rsonable factors in the cartoon and guess the background age of the story --- Stone Age.

Step 2 Leading in

List some of the primitives living in Stone Age such as Yuanmou Man in Yunnan and Peking Man in Zhoukoudian Caves. In this way, we can lead into the topic of the reading material smoothly.
