Teaching Procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

Ask students if they have problems in doing reading comprehension.

Show a picture of Li Hua, telling students he is going to teach them some skills of guessing words today.

Ask students to follow Li Hua’s instructions.

Step 2 Tasks

Students are asked to finish the following tasks.

Task 1 :

1) Ask students to finish the exercises of guessing words on the handout. Ask students to underline the key words which help them guess the meaning of the underlined words.

1. Shopkeepers may have to spend extra hours to deal with problems, such as shoplifters, who always take away things from the shop without paying for them.
