Step 1 Warming-up and Lead-in

Greet Ss and ask them if they know the World Cup in Russia or they have their favourite players. Show them a video of Ronaldo and Messi in this World Cup, arousing their interest in sports.

Step 2 Pre-reading

Glance through the pictures and the text and then ask them answer the question:

What kind of magazine do you think the text is from?

Step 3 Reading

Read the profiles and complete the summary of each sportsperson.

Read the profiles again and answer the specific questions.

Who is the youngest athlete?

Who retired from their sport and made a comeback?

Who has trained in another profession?

Who do you think is the most courageous of the four sportspeople? Give the reasons.

Step 4 Post-reading

After reading the profiles of the four sportspersons, Ss must have learned a lot from them. Then ask them what they have in mind, especially
