Step 1: leading in

1.show two pictures of my family and ask questions:

①When is it from the background of the pictures?(spring festival)

②How do my family celebrate it?(by having a big meal)

Step 2:pre-reading

Show some pictures and guess riddles:what festivals are they?

(Dragon Boat Festival and Middle Autumn Day)

Know the background of the festivals:When is it?/what is the main dish?/

Why do people celebrate it?/What can people do on that day?...

Brainstorm:make lists of Chinese festivals and western festivals.

Step 3:while-reading

Read the title and ask questions:

What festival do you know ? .(Thanksgiving)

Where is it?(in the Unite States)

Ask students to think What else they want to know about Thanksgiving?

(when/how/why/what food/...)

Careful reading:finish the questions.(play soft music)

Check the answers in the group.

Fast reading:find out the number of making turkey.(find out the key words)
