Teaching procedures

Step 1 Leading-in

1. Greeting the whole class as usual.

2. Enjoy a video about Nick Vujicic. Students can know Nick is a man who missing both arms and legs but with two small feet, one of which has two toes from the video. Then the teacher says:” There are many people just like Nike in the world. I’ll introduce another person like Nike to you. Do you want to know about it?” OK, let’s begin our class.

Step2 Presentation

The students are divided into four groups. If they are good ,they can get the winner candy.

1.Task One: Activate background knowledge before reading.

The teacher shows a picture about Aron and asks:” What can you see in the picture?” Then introduce background knowledge to students.

2.Task Two: Get the information while reading

(1)Skimming

Match the line after reading the passage.(Tips: Read the first sentence and topic sentences. It can help you understand each paragraph quickly. )

(2)Scanning

Answer the questions after reading the passage for the second time.

(3)Careful reading

Judge the following sentences true(T) or false(F) according to the passage.

3.Task Three: Use the information after reading

(1)Retell this story according to the time reading.(Tips: Learn to find the orders of events. Then add some details which can help you make the story perfectly.)

(2)Pair work: Role-play

A TV talk show invites Aron Ralston to share his exciting experience with audience. Now if you are the interviewer and Aron, let’s Role-play the conversation.

Step3 Discussion

First of all, watch a video about Aron. Then ask:” If you find yourself between a rock and a hard place, what decision will you make?” Students show their ideas with the class.

Step4 Summary

Ask some students to sum up what we have learned in this class.

Step5 Homework
