Step 1:Pre-reading

2.Fresh Memory: Who can remember the dates?

Say something related to the event. (what/when/where/who/how)

【 设计意图】 就地取材,以教师自身从参加工作到结婚生子,再到最近的一次学生远足旅行为例 ,直奔主题——events,作为读前热身的Fresh Memory,要求学生回顾自身或近或远的大事件, 既为后面的阅读做好词汇准备,又能唤起学生对自己的近段时间学习和生活的肯定。在师生的口语对话中不断的使用What were you doing when…?的句型。学生在回答时也有意识的引导用I/He/She/They was/were doing?的句型,这样有效的强调了本单元的句型要点。

Step 2: While reading

【 设计意图】 文本主体由两大板块构成,描述美国历史上的两个重要事件——马丁·路德· 金遇刺及911事件,教师通过限时阅读、默读、齐读、听读的不同阅读形式对文本进行多面处理,并在阅读中穿插其他多媒体素材,从历史文化的角度深层次透析这两起事件,既让学生更好地理解文本,又让学生更进一步地了解美国历史和文化。

1. The title can help you to understand a text.在此环节开始之前为了让学生在阅读时能够尽量少用时间,专注有效阅读,穿插了关注标题的教学设计。Do you remember what you were doing? 让学生明白The title can help you to understand a text.

2. Fast reading Task 1 :

People often remember what they were doing on some special days because the dates have meaning to the them .Let’s find out more special days. Find 2 special dates mentioned in the passage. Read only for the dates.

【 设计意图】第一层阅读,了解文章大意。教师将文章中心的日期提取出来,以一分钟阅读的形式要求学生找到文中事件发生的时间,对文章有个整体印象,本环节采用限时阅读的方式。

3. Task 2 :

Match the events with the correct dates. Read only for the events.

【 设计意图】第二层阅读,理解文章。教师将文章中心的事件提取出来,以一分钟阅读的形式要求学生找到发生的事件,对文章有个初步的印象,本环节采用一分钟限时阅读的方式。

4. Fast reading (第三次阅读寻找文中细节,专注1,2段)

Task3 : Read Paragraph 1 & Paragraph 2 to get more information about the event happened to him.

What were the Allens doing at that time? Why do people remember this event? How do the people feel?

在阅读之前初识马丁路德金,让学生初步了解美国的历史和文化。特别是黑人的独立运动和种族问题。

【 设计意图】要求学生默读一,二段,通过三个典型问题处理生词,并了解马丁路德金以及他对美国历史的影响。此环节使用了大量的影像资料和图片资料。学生学起来豪不费力而且兴趣浓厚。作为重点的阅读段落,要求学生模仿马丁路德金的演讲——I have a dream,亲身感受马丁路德金的个人魅力,为更好的理解了文本,激发了学生的学习兴趣奠定基础。

Task 4 : Read Paragraph 3 & Paragraph 4 to describe the event. What was Kate Smith doing? Why do people remember the date? How did Kate Smith feel?
