【 设计意图】 就地取材,以教师自身从参加工作到结婚生子，再到最近的一次学生远足旅行为例 ，直奔主题——events，作为读前热身的Fresh Memory，要求学生回顾自身或近或远的大事件， 既为后面的阅读做好词汇准备，又能唤起学生对自己的近段时间学习和生活的肯定。在师生的口语对话中不断的使用What were you doing when…?的句型。学生在回答时也有意识的引导用I/He/She/They was/were doing?的句型，这样有效的强调了本单元的句型要点。

【 设计意图】 文本主体由两大板块构成，描述美国历史上的两个重要事件——马丁·路德· 金遇刺及911事件，教师通过限时阅读、默读、齐读、听读的不同阅读形式对文本进行多面处理，并在阅读中穿插其他多媒体素材，从历史文化的角度深层次透析这两起事件，既让学生更好地理解文本，又让学生更进一步地了解美国历史和文化。

2. Fast reading Task 1 :
People often remember what they were doing on some special days because the dates have meaning to the them .Let’s find out more special days. Find 2 special dates mentioned in the passage. Read only for the dates.
【 设计意图】第一层阅读，了解文章大意。教师将文章中心的日期提取出来，以一分钟阅读的形式要求学生找到文中事件发生的时间，对文章有个整体印象，本环节采用限时阅读的方式。

在阅读之前初识马丁路德金，让学生初步了解美国的历史和文化。特别是黑人的独立运动和种族问题。
