Step 1 Leading-in (3’)

The teacher uses one sentence :It’s a nice day,isn’t it? Then ask students to do some exercises about tag questions. Show the learning aims to the students.

Step 2 Autonomic learning (8’)

Ask students to watch some videos.Different students do different activities.Then ask them to talk about what a polite small talk is?What is not ?They discuss in groups of four.Then they share their opinions with others.Show the pictures in 1a.Check the questions they think are good for polite small talk with people they don’t know well.

Step 3 Cooperative inquiry (8’)

Ask students to look at activities 1c and 1d.Translate the sentences in 1d.Play the recording twice for the students to listen and write the places in the chart.Then they match each question with the correct answer.Check the answers one by one. Ask students to discuss:What topic do people usually choose to make polite and successful small talk? Summarize on the screen.Watch a vedio about how to make a polite small talk.

Step 4 Display innovation (10’)

Give the students a few minutes to make a conversation in pairs or in groups of four.Then ask them to share their conversations with others.

Step 5 Standard test (8’)

Ask students to do some exercises about tag questions one by one.Correct the mistakes and explain why.

Step 6 Summary (2’)

To conclude the meaning of the small talk and the situation where the small talk often takes place.

Explain the uses of tag questions.

Step Homework (1’)
