Step 1: Greeting

Step 2: Warm-up (Brain storm)

T: Today we are going to learn the third lesson of Unit four. The topic of this unit is Shopping Day. So what can you think of when it comes to “shopping”? Let’s do a brain storm. A word, a phrase, a sentence, anything you can think of.(White down Ss’ answers on the blackboard) Great. It seems that you have known a lot about shopping. Any way, today we are going to learn more.I believe that at the end of the class, you will be able to buy things in English.

Step 3: Lead-in (Pre-read)

1. Observe and describe the pictures.

T: Look at the pictures. (Showing them on PPT.) What do you see? Yes, pencil boxes. We can’t say pencil box, because we have two here. Exercise books, and pants or two pairs of pants. Then can you be more specific? Like telling me the colours. One is…, the other is…

2. Price-guessing.

T:How much do you think they are? (Showing ¥ on PPT.) Can you guess? For the pencil box, the price might be … How much is the exercise book? It’s … What about the pants? How much are they? They are … We should use the plural form when we talk about pants. Anything else? Yes. Glasses, shorts, socks, shoes, trousers and so on. Then who is right about the price? Open your books and turn to page 48. Listen to the dialouges carefully and find the answers.

(The purpose of the design of pre-read is to arouse students’ interest in the dialouges, get them prepared for it and pay attention to the singular and plural forms of the target language.)

Step 4: Presentation: (Read)

1. Check the prices and circle the right things.

T: Are you ready? Let’s check the answers. The orange pencil box is 20 yuan? How do you know? ( Incourage students to read the sentence not just the number. ) The pink exercise book is 5 yuan? I don’t understand. I didn’t see 5 in the dialougue. (Incourage students to guess the meaning of “all together”) So 25 minus 20 is 5. Wow, you are better than me in maths. The blanck pants are 90 yuan. So the total price is… Total means “all together” So the total price is 115 yuan.

T: Now I have a question. Why are there 2 dialougues? I mean, what’s the biggest difference between dialougue 1 and dialougue 2. Ss: One is about stationary, the other is about clothes. Ss: shoes, socks, shorts, glasses, gloves…
