= 1 ﹨* GB3 ① Try to guide students to apply speaking and listening skills into practice.

= 2 ﹨* GB3 ② Master the use of Past simple.

Teaching Procedure:

Step(一): Leading -in

Show students the photos of a birthday cake and Sanmenxia so that they can know about teacher’s date and place of birth and guide them to talk about someone’s date and place of birth.

Purpose:

In this way, the teacher wants to present the names of 12 months and “be born” sentence patterns as the followings related to this lesson so that they can better understand the lesson.

= 1 ﹨* GB3 ① When were you/ was she/ was he born?

= 2 ﹨* GB3 ② Where were you/ was she/ was he born?

Step (二) : Pre-listening

Show students pictures of Jackie Rowling and a vedio of her novel “Harry Potter” and guide students to know something about ‘Harry Potter’ and its writer before listening.

Purpose:

In this way, the teacher presents the new words “writer” and “novel” and it also helps students know about the background of this dialogue before listening.

Step (三):While-listening

Ask students to listen to the tape and then finish the following table:

It can basically help students to get the main idea of the dialogue and practice their listening skills at the same time. It also can strengthen the usage of the following “be born” sentence patterns:

Step (四):Post-listening

Let students read 1a loudly and pay attention to their pronunciation and intonation while reading.

Ask students to read 1a in roles and pay attention to their pronunciation and intonation while reading.

Let students to make a dialogue similar to 1a with their partners with the help of the following mind mapping.
