The topic of this material is about the methods of using five basic sentence types of simple sentence in passage-writing. It aims to let students grasp the ways of content-transformation , which can help students use five basic sentence types of simple sentence for their writing while involving some writing troubles in the exams. In order to let students know how to write correct simple sentences ,basic English sentence types are reviewed first in this lesson, then we provide some more examples to teach students how to transform the original content into a new content which is more easily used to write a simple sentence. In addition, this lessen also aims to let students know how to correct their writing mistakes and evaluate their own writings by providing the writing self-assessment level.

Student Analysis:

Although most students in Grade 9 have got the ability to write a passage, some of them have difficulty in writing an even simple sentence , for they forget the structures of five basic English sentence types. Furthermore, students are confused by some Chinglish and influenced on their Chinese-thinking instead of the English-thinking when they are writing a passage. Besides, only a few of them know how to combine two or three simple sentences into a clause. It is necessary to teach them some ways to write a simple sentence and composite sentence in a correct way. So students of this level need to get more sentence-writing skills to improve their writing.

Objectives:

i. Recite the 13 phrases used in writing.

ii. Recite the five basic English sentence types of simple sentence .

ii. Grasp the ways of content-transformation.

iii. know how to combine two simple sentences into an attributive sentence.

ii. Develop the interest and confidence in writing.

ii. Enlightening teaching strategy.

iii. Share and cooperate with others through group work.

Teaching Focus:

The focus of teaching will be on helping students know the methods of writing using the five basic English sentence types of simple sentence and grasp the ways of content-transformation helping them to write, as well as knowing how to combine two simple sentences into a clause.

Anticipated Difficulties:

It would be hard for students to combine simple sentences into a clause and it could be difficult for them to write a passage using English-thinking ways instead of Chinese-thinking ways.
