Word and picture flashcards for Lesson1

Class Opening:

Greeting and Review:

Welcome the students back to school in English with: Welcome back, students! It’s good to see you! I feel happy that you are here as new Grade 4 students!

Ask students if they recall any of the concepts they learned in their last unit.

Lesson Hook:

Tell the students to open their books to Unit1. Open your own book and show the students what they should look for. Ask the students what they think the children in the picture on the front page for Unit1 are doing.

Teacher: Take a look at the picture on this page. What are these students doing? Where do you think they are? What grade do you think they’ re in?

Teacher: Now turn to page 2 in your book. Look at the title of this lesson. Can anyone tell us what this lesson is about?

New Concepts:

1. A new teacher

Teacher: Look at the pictures in Part 1. Danny and Jenny are in this story. Who do you think the man is? Let’s find out.

Say: Let’s listen to the audiotape and follow along in your books. Touch each word as you hear it. Do not read aloud the first time. Read to yourself. See if you can find out who the man in the picture is.

Demonstrate

Ask different students to read the dialogue in each of the three parts on page 2. Give the students assistance as necessary. Read through Part 1 several times to ensure many students have the chance to read to the class.

2. A new pupil

Teacher: Now let’s look at the picture in Part 2. Jenny and Mr. Wood are in the picture. There is another boy in the picture we have not yet met. Who do you think this boy is?

Let’s listen to the audiotape to find out. Touch each word as you hear it. Do not read aloud the first time. Read to yourself. See if you can find out who the boy is.
