III.(Teaching procedures)

1. Lead-in

Play a short video and introduce the topic ---the appositive clause.

2. Observe the following sentences carefully and learn the definition, structure, abstract nouns and conjunctions of the appositive clause

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live up to the true meaning of its creed(信条).

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

The question whether we have the ability to realize our dreams is not clear.

We hold a belief that one day we can realize our dreams.

3. Challenge the students to find out some appositive clauses.

Li Daiyu and Liu Qian were on a trip to Canada. The thought that they could cross the whole continent was exciting.

Before starting, Danny gave them a suggestion that they should catch “The True North”. During the trip, he told them some people have the idea that they can cross Canada in less than five days, but they forget the fact that Canada is 5,500 km from coast to coast. Here in Vancouver, skiing and sailing are two exciting sports here. Their next stop is Calgery, which is famous for Calgery Stampede. The secret whether cowboys win the game depends on their gift for riding horses. When arriving at Thunder Bay, they were surprised at the fact that Ocean ships can sail up the Great Lakes.

At school, they have no idea why Canada is so empty. After two days’ travel, they realized it. Now the train rushed to Toronto.
