To arose students awareness towards Chinese traditional culture and increase their sense of

cultural identity.

Material analysis:

This listening material is the extra learning resources download from YouTube. The content of this material is closely related to the topic we are going learn. In this case, it is used as the major input of this writing class.

Student analysis:

The Mid-Autumn Festival, as a Chinese traditional festival, is a familiar topic among high school students. They have accumulated a lot of background information. However, they may have difficulty in describing this festival through using more native language.

Difficult point:

The speed of the material is a little bit fast.

Teaching method:

1. Task-based method; Discussing;

2. Speaking.

Teaching procedure:

→ Step 1 warming up

Begin the lesson by playing a piece of music called “水调歌头 ---- After listening, the students are asked to brainstorm as many the things or events as they can related to Mid-Autumn Festival.

以一首老歌水调歌头开始本节课不仅可以给学生创造一种温馨的学习氛围提升学生的学习兴趣,又可以快速的导入本节课的主题中秋节。使学生快速进行头脑风暴,引导说出与主题相关的背景知识。

T: Have you heard the song before? What’s its name? Which festival does the song depict? We have just finished our Mid Autumn Festival. What did you do on that day? (What a pity!But thanks to the Mid-Autumn Festival, you have at least two more days off.)

So what comes to your mind when you hear the Mid-Autumn Festival?(What do we eat on that day?/ What activities will we do?/ What characters are related to the Festival?/ What about legend stories?)

Before watching the short video, students are asked to go over worksheet 1 in order to work out the key word of each question?
